Cai Guo-Qiang Cultural Melting Bath: Project for Naoshima
Footbath Experience
January 1, 2026
On Thursday, January 1, 2026, Benesse Art Site Naoshima will host a special one-day-only footbath experience program at the outdoor installation "Cultural Melting Bath: Project for Naoshima" by renowned contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang, located at the Benesse House Museum.
This work, created in 1998, is based on the concept of cultural and racial mingling. It is installed on a beach in Naoshima believed to have the island's strongest energy flow, according to the principles of feng shui. The piece invites reflection on coexistence and connection through the shared act of bathing.
